SALMON RUN
The Quinsam River, just outside Campbell River on Vancouver Island, has just seen the highest pink salmon return in a decade. And this year’s coho run is anticipated to be just as high. That’s right — despite a typical return rate of just 3%, the recent doubling of cetacean populations transiting local waters and recovered local raptor populations, all paired with the worst ever impacts from climate change and a warmer ocean than at any time in recorded history — a million salmon were recorded by the local hatchery. And, to be clear, a million fish is not just a big number but actually twice that of any recent count.
Okay. Great.
That is all.
As you were.
